Rest?

AUGMENTED REALITY EXPERIENCE

Rest? is a physical type installation that is accompanied by an augmented reality experience.

Rest is something so elusive in our society that insists on glorifying hustle culture. Skip that meal, don’t take that break, sacrifice your sleep, all for the sake of “getting it done.” It seems that we have forgotten how important it is to rest. Between jobs and classwork and other life responsibilities, there is little time to take a breath, let alone take a break. We are all consumed with our tasks for each day. I created an invitation for people to come sit on the bench, get comfortable on the pillows, and take a moment to press pause on life.

I chose to place the word “rest?” on a bench because they are all over campus, a place provided to students to be able to take a moment to rest. Specifically, this bench outside of the Jenkins building at ECU gets a lot of foot traffic, but it feels very tucked away and peaceful. I created an invitation for people to come sit on the bench, get comfortable on the pillows, and take a moment to press pause on life. If they choose to scan the QR code I placed next to the bench, then they would also see a kind message while they relaxed.
