Decoy Apparel
Icon + T-Shirt Design
For Decoy Apparel Co., a lifestyle brand based in New Bern, North Carolina, I created a hand-drawn custom icon system representing the four pillars of the brand: woods, wings, water, and whisky. Rooted in Decoy’s mission to restore the soul of the Southeast’s rich waterfowling tradition, the icons draw from heritage, craftsmanship, and the memories made in the duck blind. Each pillar was developed in three distinct styles: a hatched, shaded icon with a hand-drawn, illustrative feel; a simplified solid icon for versatility and scalability; and a colorized version designed specifically for decals and merchandise. Together, these variations allow the icon system to adapt seamlessly across apparel, branding, and physical products while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
In a separate project, I designed a hand-drawn graphic T-shirt inspired by the look of a vintage whiskey label. The design references the song “Fishin’ in the Dark” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, blending nostalgia, Southern storytelling, and outdoor culture into a wearable graphic. The t-shirt design was also utilized on a whisky glass. Both projects reflect Decoy’s emphasis on tradition, connection, and the moments—on and off the water—that define the waterfowling lifestyle.
